ABOUT MAGNOLIAS OF WALTERBORO

A family-centered approach to senior care.

Magnolias of Walterboro is built around a simple belief: older adults deserve compassionate support that preserves their dignity, respects their independence, and helps them continue enjoying a meaningful quality of life.

our story

It began with family.

For the Lockwood family, caring for seniors is more than a profession. It is a responsibility shaped by over four decades of experience supporting older adults and the families who love them.

Throughout those years, one principle has remained constant: some of the most meaningful differences begin with the simplest gestures.

Listening carefully. Remembering how someone likes their coffee. Sitting together on the front porch. Preparing a familiar meal. Offering reassurance during a difficult moment. Taking the time to learn the story behind the person receiving care.

That belief guides Magnolias of Walterboro today.

Our community provides Assisted Living and Respite Care within a warm Southern environment where personal relationships matter. Instead of asking residents to fit into an impersonal system, we take time to understand their routines, preferences, abilities, and support needs.

The result is care that feels less institutional and more like home.

The Lockwood family’s history in senior care and commitment to making a difference form an important part of the Magnolias story.

Our approach to care

If it’s not good enough for Grandma, it’s not good enough.

You can see our philosophy at work in the small, ordinary moments around the community.

It’s in the warm welcome a new resident gets on move-in day.

It’s in how our team talks with families; plainly, and often.

It’s in care plans built around a person’s actual routine, not a generic checklist.

It’s why our kitchen leans on recipes that taste like home cooking.

And it’s why our activities calendar makes room for connection, not just something to fill the hours.

LIFE AT MAGNOLIAS OF WALTERBORO

What our philosophy feels like from the inside.

At Magnolias of Walterboro, our values aren’t framed on a wall, they show up in the ordinary rhythm of the day.

You’ll see it in conversations over lunch, in an afternoon spent in the garden, in a family stopping by unannounced, in routines that give shape and comfort to each day.

Residents keep making their own decisions here. They choose how involved to be, which friendships to nurture, and how much help to accept, without ever losing their sense of self in the process.

Support is there the moment it’s needed, and stays out of the way the rest of the time. Families remain woven into daily life, not visitors on the outside of it.

We’re not trying to keep residents merely safe. We’re trying to help them feel known and cared for.

Our philosophy

More than care. A place to belong.

Our mission is to serve seniors in a way that preserves their dignity, promotes their independence, and enhances their quality of life.

That mission shapes how we approach personal care, relationships, dining, activities, safety, and communication with families.

We believe good senior care begins by seeing the whole person, not simply the assistance they require.

Every resident deserves to be spoken to, supported, and cared for with patience and respect. We recognize the life experience, personal values, and individuality each person brings to our community.

Care is guided by each resident’s individual needs, abilities, preferences, and plan of care. Assistance may include medication management, bathing, dressing, meals, housekeeping, laundry, and other activities of daily living.

Friendships, family visits, shared meals, activities, outings, and community events create regular opportunities for residents to connect with others and remain part of a close-knit community.

Emergency call systems, secure entry, medication support, onsite nursing assistance, and additional safeguards help residents and families feel more confident about everyday wellbeing.

Receiving assistance should not mean losing control over everyday life. We encourage residents to make choices, participate in familiar routines, and do as much as they comfortably can for themselves.

Moving into senior living can be a significant adjustment. Our team works to provide reassurance, familiarity, meaningful relationships, and a calm environment where residents feel safe and supported.

Residents are encouraged to take part in activities that reflect their interests and abilities. Whether joining a group activity, attending a spiritual service, helping with a familiar task, or enjoying a quiet conversation, meaningful engagement can take many forms.

Our chapel, chaplain relationships, and community partnerships help residents remain connected to their faith, values, and personal sources of comfort.

PERSONALIZED CARE

Support that grows and shifts as life does

Residents change. Needs shift. Our job is to notice, communicate clearly, and adjust the plan before a small issue becomes a bigger one.

We start by getting to know each resident; their abilities, their habits, what a good day looks like to them. From there, we build a plan of care and keep revisiting it.

When more coordination is needed, we loop in families, our in-house on-call medical team, home health and hospice partners, or a visiting chaplain, whoever the moment calls for.

How it works

Individual understanding

We begin by learning about the resident – not only their care needs, but also their routines, preferences, interests, personality, and family relationships.

Personalized planning

Support is shaped around the resident’s individual plan of care, including the assistance they need with daily routines, medication, meals, personal care, and engagement.

Ongoing attention

Team members remain attentive to changes in the resident’s comfort, abilities, routines, and wellbeing so that concerns can be communicated and addressed.

Family communication

Families are an important part of the care relationship. Our team and management work to keep them informed and involved when decisions or adjustments are needed.

Why it matters

Consistent, familiar support

Receiving assistance from a team that understands the resident’s needs and preferences can make everyday routines feel more comfortable and reassuring.

Whole-person care

Good support considers physical needs alongside emotional wellbeing, relationships, personal choices, spiritual life, and meaningful engagement.

Continued independence

The right level of assistance can help residents remain involved in everyday life and continue doing what they can safely manage for themselves.

Greater peace of mind

Clear communication and an attentive care team help families feel more confident that their loved one is supported.

THE PEOPLE YOU'LL MEET

Credentials matter. Character matters more.

Behind every resident’s good day is a team that shows up consistently, communicates honestly, and genuinely cares about the people they serve.

A familiar face when reassurance is needed.
A team member who remembers a resident’s preferences.
A thoughtful conversation with a concerned family member.
Patient support that protects dignity and encourages independence.
A culture in which residents are treated with the same compassion we would want for our own mothers and fathers.
